When machining test pieces, it is essential to ensure that the materials
integrity is not jeopardised through machining abuse. CNC turning, CNC
milling and grinding methods are therefore employed to produce test
pieces that are truly representative of the material under test and are
dimensionally accurate.
Where test pieces are to be removed from large sections or sacrificial
item, the location and orientation of the test blank is critical. IIDEAL LTD
produces a test plan with all the test piece blanks extracted in line with
the plan. A vertical band saw with a laser alignment facility helps
to achieve this.
Traceability is maintained throughout the manufacturing process by making
and identifying test pieces in a manner suitable to the specimen to be
produced. All manufactured test speciems are inspected with dimensional
checks and surface finish measurements recorded and reported.
